HISTORY

Genesis Prevention Coalition, a 501c3 nonprofit corporation with a coalition infrastructure, has administrative offices and the Genesis/Intel Computer Clubhouse housed at the Studioplex facility in the historical Martin Luther King Historical Development district, 659 Auburn Ave., Atlanta, GA. The agency also has a satellite office in the City of Atlanta’s One Stop Career Center located at 818 Pollard Boulevard. The coalition’s members are from diverse backgrounds with common interest, coming together to support and sustain each other for a common goal. During the past seven years, the Coalition’s sectoral intervention service delivery system (federal, local and business funded) has been administered through staff driven comprehensive programs which addresses multiple risk with multiple strategies.

Developmental Funding Awards (DFA) and service contracts awarded to coalition and community members have been administered as a part of the Genesis Youth Leadership and Family Enrichment Institute (YLAFE). Refugee sectoral services through sub-contracts are offered to youth and families in both DeKalb and Clayton Counties. Our Youth Development Model provides leadership opportunities at every organizational level. The Youth Leadership Council is complete with its own vision, mission, purpose and elected officials. The Council President and Secretary are voting members of the Genesis’ Board of Directors. Members of the Council serve on committees, participate in strategic planning, management and evaluation of the agency and its programs.

HOW WE WORK

Collaborative partners and community members including youth, adults, and elders play key roles in a comprehensive approach which addresses multiple risks with multiple strategies. The Youth Leadership Council and Senior Service Circle provides opportunities for their full participation. The Coalition holds open bi-monthly meetings and invites involvement through committee work and many other efforts. Positive and formative feedback is obtained through the execution of the organization's published evaluation plan.

Genesis provides services to youth, young adults and their families as a component of in-school curriculum, after-school programs, summer employment, training initiatives, in-house internships and special events. Youth and young adults are reached through intervention programs and activities delivered at our site, community centers, schools, special event venues and network member locations. The Institute has operated after-school programs to meet the needs of local youth. Families participate in a Family Strengthening Program launched to train families in violence prevention and to reduce domestic violence and substance abuse.
